Coding and Decoding

Substitutional Coding

Tips and Tricks :

Always read the last portion of the question first and then substitute the answer from the given substitutional Code and that would be the final answer.

Example : If ‘Tube Light’ is call ‘Fan’, ‘Fan’ is call ‘Air’, ‘Air’ is call ‘Cloud’, ‘Cloud’ is call ‘Pond’, what we use for air flow?

                  A.   Fan
                  B.   Air
                  C.   Cloud
                  D.   Pond

Answer : Only read the last portion of the given question (What we use for air flow?)
As we know we use Fan for air flow.
Substitutional code for Fan is Air in the given question. (‘Fan’ is call ‘Air’)
So the final answer would be Air (B).

Mixed Letter Coding

: In this type, three or more sentences are given in the coded language and either the code for a particular word or the word of a particular code is asked.

Tips and tricks : pick up two sentences bearing a common word we will get the common code of that word. In similar way we can find out a particular code word for each word of given sentences.

Example : In a certain code
‘bi nie pie’ means ‘some good jokes’
‘nie bat lik’ means ‘some real stories’ and
‘pie lik tol’ means ‘many good stories’

1. Which word in that code means ‘jokes?’
   A.
bi
   B. nie
   C.
pie
   D.
Cannot be determined

Answer :

(1) bi nie pie = some good jokes
(2) nie bat lik = some real stories
(3) pie lik tol = many good stories

First find out in which sentence the word ‘jokes’ is given
As we can see the word ‘jokes’ is given in the first sentence, but two more words are given ‘some good’ in the same sentence. So first we will find out the codes of the words ‘some good’  from the common words and its codes from all the three sentences.

As we can see ‘some’ is common in sentence (1) and sentence (2),

        (1)  ‘bi nie pie’ = ‘some good jokes’
        (2)  ‘nie bat lik’ = ‘some real stories’

In these two sentences the word ‘some’ is common and its code ‘nie’ is common
         So, ‘nie’ = ‘some’
and ‘good’ is common in sentence (1) and sentence (3)

          (1)  ‘bi nie pie’ = ‘some good jokes’⃝
          (3)  ‘pie lik tol’ = ‘many good stories’

In these two sentences the word ‘good’ is common and its code ‘pie’ is common
           So, ‘pie’ = ‘good’
Therefore the remaining code ‘bi’ means ‘jokes’ (A)

                      or

(1) bi nie pie = some good jokes

(2) nie bat lik = some real stories
(3) pie lik tol = many good stories
